The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:
Deputy assaulted
On Thursday around 10 p.m., Deputy R. Chin responded to a disturbance call at a convenience store in the area of Highway 48 and Medoc Mountain Road.
Chin encountered 19-year-old Donovan McGee, who was allegedly yelling and causing a disturbance in the parking lot.

McGee refused to leave and began using obscene language.
According to the warrant, he also made derogatory comments about the deputy’s race, sexual orientation, and weight.
When Chin tried to take McGee into custody, the Enfield-area man allegedly head-butted him. The warrant states that McGee tried to pull away from Chin, causing a cut on the officer’s thumb before the head-butt occurred.
McGee was charged with assault on a government official, disorderly conduct, and resist, delay, and obstruct. He has a March 26 district court date.
Fentanyl trafficking
On Thursday around 8 p.m., the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant in the 300 block of Monroe Street.
This followed a three-month investigation into Jamonte Gorham, 35, for allegedly selling drugs in the community.

The sheriff’s office’s Special Response Team and the Criminal Investigations Division assisted, along with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

According to the warrant, Gorham was attempting to flush fentanyl as agents located him. Agents seized approximately 3,015 grams of suspected fentanyl, 847 grams of suspected marijuana, 10 grams of suspected cocaine, and a handgun.
Gorham, a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with:
Trafficking fentanyl
Possession with intent to sell and deliver fentanyl
Possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance
Possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance
Felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance
Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance
Felony maintaining a dwelling
Obstructing justice
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
According to the firearm warrant, Gorham had a Ruger in his possession at the time of the raid. He was previously convicted on January 9, 2012, for felony possession of marijuana and was sentenced to six to eight months for a crime committed on July 25, 2011.
Gorham, who is no longer listed in detention center records, has a March 3 district court date.
