A Rich Square man charged Tuesday with cocaine offenses waived counsel during his first district court appearance today, according to eCourts records.

Amad Rashid Debreaux, 37, posted bond Wednesday following his arrest the previous day stemming from an ongoing cocaine distribution investigation, Chief Detective Ashley Collier of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office said.

During the operation, investigators observed Debreaux traveling in a vehicle previously linked to controlled purchases of crack cocaine, she said. Deputies later conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Deputies detected the odor of marijuana and observed items commonly used in narcotics packaging. A probable cause search was conducted.

Approximately 8.5 grams of powdered cocaine were located in the man’s possession along with cash. A digital scale with cocaine residue was also recovered from the vehicle.

While being escorted to the magistrate’s office following his arrest, Debreaux allegedly discarded an additional bag containing approximately 9.4 grams of crack cocaine, which field-tested positive.

Debreaux was charged with two counts of felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, one count of felony possession of cocaine, one count of felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substances, one count of felony alter/steal/destroy criminal evidence, and one count of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also served with two outstanding warrants for felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and one count of maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substances.

Following the arrest, investigators executed a search warrant at his residence, resulting in the seizure of additional crack cocaine and fentanyl. The investigation remains ongoing.

“I’m thankful for the diligent efforts by the narcotics division on this investigation,” Sheriff Jack Smith said. “I’m also thankful for the continued partnership with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force as they assisted in this investigation.”
