Central North Carolina is expected to see a period of light rain transitioning to light snow between late tonight and Thursday morning, the National Weather Service reported.
Overall impacts are expected to be limited.
Late tonight light rain moves into the area with temperatures remaining above freezing.
On Wednesday periods of rain continue throughout the day. Areas east of I-95 may see 0.5 to 1 inch of rain, while areas to the west may see 0.25 to 0.5 inches.
On Wednesday evening from 7 to 10, rain is expected to transition quickly to snow. Some brief sleet may mix in during this changeover.
Precipitation will exit the region after daybreak Thursday.
Most of central North Carolina is likely to see light accumulations of an inch or less.
The best chance for accumulating snow is north of I-85 and near the Virginia border. In a "worst-case" scenario, up to 3 inches could fall in a corridor from Roxboro to Roanoke Rapids.
Locations south of Highway 64 are expected to see little to no accumulation due to limited remaining moisture.
Hazardous travel conditions are possible Thursday morning, particularly where snow is persistent or where a deeper snowpack already exists.
