The three at-large seats on the Halifax County Board of Commissioners have attracted the attention of several challengers. 

According to the Halifax County Board of Elections, two will run as Democrats and two will run as Republicans.

Filing closed today, and in the race for the three at-large seats, incumbent Democrats Chenoa Davis and Vernon Bryant and Republican Sammy Webb will face competition. Democratic challengers James E. Mills and Tyus Few are running for the seats, as are Republicans Chuck Hasty and John Whichard.

The Democrats in the board of commissioners race will have a primary on March 3. The top three vote-getters in the Democratic Primary will go on to face the three Republicans in November.

In the race for clerk of superior court, newcomers Chris Kidd and Ronnie Reaves are seeking the office. Current Clerk Lisa Turner did not seek re-election. 

Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis will run unopposed in March. 

Board of Elections Director Kristin Scott said Roanoke Rapids businessman Tracy Story is running for sheriff on a petition as an independent candidate. Once the board certifies his petition, Story will run for the office in November.

In the Halifax County Board of Education race, three incumbents will face opposition from four challengers. Incumbents Joyce Lashley, Claude Cooper, and Michael Hawkins Sr. will face competition from Curtis Young, Jasmin C. Carter, Charlene Jones, and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Silver.

In the November Weldon City Schools Board of Education race, incumbents Edith Jenkins, Tanya Byrd-Robinson, and Tiffany Hale face competition from Travis Terril Green, Kimberly Robinson, Stephanie Tillery, and O.D. Sykes.

District Attorney Kimberly Gourrier Scott is running unopposed. 

In the State House District 27 race, incumbent Rodney D. Pierce is running against former Representative Michael Wray. Republican Kenneth W. Bentley Jr. is also running for the seat.

In the United States Senate race, six Democrats, one Libertarian, and seven Republicans are running for the seat being vacated by Thom Tillis. 

The Democratic candidates are former Governor Roy Cooper, Daryl Farrow, Marcus W. Williams, Orrick Quick, Justin Dues, and Robert Colon. The Libertarian candidate is Shannon W. Bray. The Republican candidates are Elizabeth A. Temple, Donald M. “Don” Brown, Michael Whatley, Margot Dupre, Thomas Johnson, Michelle Morrow, and Richard Dansie.

In the First Congressional District, incumbent Don Davis filed for re-election. Libertarian Tom Bailey has also filed for the seat. Republicans Bobby Hanig, Eric Rouse, Asa Buck, Ashley-Nicole Russell, and Laurie Buckhout are running.
