Magistrate James E. Gates today moved Isaac Nielsen’s preliminary and detention hearings until next Tuesday, according to federal court records.
Nielsen, a Roanoke Rapids police officer, faces a charge of possession and distribution of child sex abuse material. His attorney requested the continuance to have more time to discuss the case and prepare for next week’s hearings.
Nielsen, who is currently being held in custody in Virginia, was not present for the proceeding, but his attorney was there on his client’s behalf and moved to continue Nielsen’s preliminary and detention hearings to December 17 at 10 a.m. in Raleigh.
The order stated, “The court finds that any delay resulting from the continuance of this matter shall be excluded from the Speedy Trial Act computation for the reason that the ends of justice served by granting this continuance outweigh the best interest of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial.”
Nielsen was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service.
According to the complaint, the investigation originated from a tip by a foreign law enforcement agency regarding a user on the porn website Motherless operating under the name ****meat22.
An undercover officer posed as a single mother on the platform and engaged in chats with ****meat22, who was later identified as Nielsen.
In these chats, Nielsen reportedly said his favorite age is 10 to 15 and expressed sexual interest in the undercover agent’s fictitious 10-year-old daughter.
On May 23 and May 26, the complaint says that Nielsen sent the undercover agent multiple videos and images depicting child sexual abuse material, including videos of prepubescent minors engaging in sexual acts with adults.
