Chuck Hasty, a funeral director, part-time deputy, and retired law enforcement chief, issued a statement today on his decision to run as a Republican for one of three at-large seats on the Halifax County Board of Commissioners.

“I’m excited to share something that’s been on my heart for a while,” he said. “I am officially running for Halifax County commissioner.”

He said the decision didn’t happen overnight. “It came from years of living here, working here, raising a family here, and wanting more for the place we all call home. I’ve seen the challenges our community faces, but I’ve also seen just how resilient, hardworking, and caring the people of Halifax County are. That’s what inspired me to step forward.”

Commissioners make decisions that impact people’s daily lives, he said. “Our schools, our taxes, our growth, our safety, our environment, and the future we’re leaving for our children. I want to be a voice at that table who listens, who shows up, who cares, and who fights for what truly matters to our families and neighborhoods.”

He said his heart for the county comes down to what he describes as a few simple commitments:

To strengthen the services and support systems that every family needs to live safely and with dignity.

To encourage smart, balanced growth that brings opportunity while preserving the character and values of our community.

To build a more open, connected, and responsive county government where people feel heard—not overlooked.

To invest in schools, the workforce, and the tools that keep the county moving forward.

To protect the natural beauty of Halifax County — land, water, and air — “for our kids and grandkids.”

To support lifelong learning, recreation, and quality of life so that every generation can thrive.

“I’m running because I truly love this county and believe we deserve leadership that reflects who we are: Strong, diverse, and full of potential,” he said. “I hope to earn your trust, your support, and your vote as we work together to create a brighter future for Halifax County. Thank you for believing in what we can accomplish — together.”
