Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:
Firearms seized
On Saturday shortly after noon, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team Sgt. G. Martin conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 95 near mile marker 173 for a motor vehicle violation, according to Major Anzell Harris.
While speaking with the occupants — identified as Dasani McCrae, 19, and Zion Thompson, 18, both of Stratford, Connecticut — Martin detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
During a probable cause search, Martin located four firearms.
A check by Halifax County Emergency Communications confirmed that three of the guns had been reported stolen — two from Wilmington and one from Charlotte. The fourth firearm had its serial numbers removed.
McCrae was charged with:
Three counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
Altering/removing a gun serial number.
Possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Following too closely.
Thompson was charged with:
Three counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
Altering/removing a gun serial number.
The men, who received $60,000 bonds, were not listed in detention center records and have January 22 district court dates.
Corporal R. Lafayette, Deputy J. Butler, and Lieutenant E. Richardson assisted.
Felon with weapon
Later Saturday, shortly before 3 p.m., Lafayette conducted a stop on a vehicle for equipment violations and infractions on Interstate 95 northbound at mile marker 173.
Harris said while Lafayette was speaking with the driver, Raheem Mallory, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, and passenger A’ki Marquis Thomas, 21, of Seaboard, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, they located marijuana and a concealed firearm.

Mallory is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms. Thomas was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Halifax County for possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

Thomas was arrested on the outstanding warrant and further charged with:
Carrying a concealed weapon.
Simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
Mallory was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
Mallory received a $15,000 bond and is no longer detained. Thomas was initially denied bond as he was already out on bond for a previous charge. He is no longer listed in detention center records.
The men have January 22 district court dates.
Both have a Jan. 22, 2026, court date.
Stolen U-Haul recovered
Weldon police Lieutenant Lloyd Melton reported that on November 20 shortly after 7:30 p.m., Sgt. I. Smith, Cpl. A. Young, and Officer C. Roberts stopped a U-Haul box truck that had been reported stolen by the rental company.
Officers detained the driver, Myron Brinson of Knoxville, Tennessee, and the passenger, Linda Williams of Canton, North Carolina.
Both Brinson and Williams were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
A magistrate found probable cause for the arrests and set a secured bond of $10,000 for each. They are no longer listed in detention center records.
