State Senator Bobby Hanig filed today to run for Congress, launching his campaign as what he calls himself a proud America First conservative who has championed and delivered on President Trump’s agenda.

Hanig said he will continue supporting the America First Agenda by providing conservative leadership for eastern North Carolina.

Hanig, an Army veteran, small-business owner, former State House member, and current State Senator, said his campaign is rooted in service, duty, and a clear understanding of the families and communities that make up the First Congressional District.

“Eastern North Carolina deserves a leader who will champion President Trump’s America First agenda,” Hanig said. “I’m running for Congress to secure our borders, defend our freedoms, rebuild our economy, and protect the values that make our communities strong.”

He drew a sharp contrast with rich and out-of-district candidates attempting to buy the seat.

“Too many millionaires think they can buy a congressional seat, and too many candidates don’t even live in the district they’re trying to represent,” Hanig said. “Owning property here is not the same as living here. Visiting your vacation home is not the same as knowing our people, understanding our challenges, or respecting our values.”

Hanig said his entire career has been defined by standing with the people who make eastern North Carolina work — including its heritage industries.

“I’ve fought for our shrimpers, our fishermen, our farmers, and the working men and women who keep our communities alive,” Hanig said. “As the next Congressman for the First District, that’s exactly what I’ll keep doing — fighting for my people and protecting our way of life.”

Hanig also emphasized how his military service continues to guide his public life.

“I volunteered to serve my country when I joined the Army,” he said. “Now, I’m volunteering again — to serve the people of Eastern North Carolina in Congress. The world is safer when America is strong, and we need leaders who will support our military, stand with our veterans, and keep our nation secure.”

Since his announcement in September, Hanig has recruited over 130 volunteers from across the district.

Hanig also drew a sharp contrast with Democrat Don Davis, whose actions in Washington and behavior during redistricting show, Hanig said, "a politician focused on himself, not the people of even his own county. Don Davis couldn't even figure out which district he wanted to run in until the very last minute. That's not commitment to eastern North Carolina — that's a politician scrambling to protect his own career.  And when he had the chance to stand up for our values, he refused.  Don Davis didn't support banning boys from girls' locker rooms. Eastern North Carolina families deserve a Congressman who will stand up for their values."

“This district is home,” he said. “I’ve worked alongside local leaders, first responders, veterans, farmers, watermen, and families across our coastal and rural counties. They deserve someone who listens, fights, and delivers. I’m ready to take that fight to Washington.”

As a state senator, Hanig has championed:

Lower taxes and fiscal responsibility

Parents’ rights and strong schools

Law and order and support for law enforcement

Economic growth and rural job creation

Protecting constitutional freedoms, including the Second Amendment;

Standing with farmers, shrimpers, watermen, veterans, and the region’s heritage industries.

Hanig said the district needs authentic America First leadership — not outsiders searching for a congressional trophy.

“I’m ready to serve, ready to fight, and ready to deliver real America First leadership for Eastern North Carolina,” he said. “It’s time to send a representative to Congress who puts our people first — always.”
