Three incumbent Roanoke Rapids Graded District Board of Trustees are up for re-election this year.
Incumbents Cathy Keeter, Steven Ellis, and Jeff Kloss are being challenged by Jim Whitmire and Carlton Ansley.
While Ansley did not specifically respond to the submitted questions, he did provide an overview of his platform.
The following is what he submitted:
In today's world we need to make sure that kids have the best education so that they are prepared to work towards a career that is their dream.
If they want to become the CEO of a company, a Doctor, a Nurse, or work in a trade such as plumber, electrician, etc., we should have an education system that supports their goals.
We want to see our school system become one of the top in the state — where people will want to move to our town, so their children can go to school here.
Growing up and becoming a productive member of society can feel like an unattainable goal to some kids.
We, as parents, and our school system need to work together to make all children's dreams a reality.
Too many of our city's children get lost in this life goal for many reasons.
Is it a lack of family resources or standing? A lack of community mentors? School resources that aren't there or promoted to all of our children?
I believe all school children should be treated equally and given the same opportunities to succeed in life.
We need to support and build up all students with good morals, a knowledge of their worth and value in life, and be a guide to help them obtain their goals.
No child should ever be left behind because they have no support system.
We need an open communication system between parents and the schools if we are to obtain these goals.
My goal of running for RRGSD Board is to be a difference in the education and life of our children.
It starts with one person and I want to see and be a part of these goals.
I want open communication between the board and parents. I appreciate your support and the support of the community in making these goals a reality for our future.
