The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Christopher Davis:

Resisting an officer

This morning shortly before 3 a.m., Sergeant I. Smith responded to a trespassing call in the 300 block of Poplar Street.

A man later identified as Devin Cyntrell Clanton, 41, of Garysburg, was standing by a vehicle outside the residence but ran when approached by Smith.

Clanton was apprehended and charged with resisting a public officer.

He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center after being jailed without the opportunity for bond due to a previous charge.

He has a December 16 district court date.

Corporal A. Young assisted.

Candy bars stolen

On October 22 around 1:15 p.m., Davis and Detective H. Cross responded to a convenience store following a larceny in the 500 block of Second Street.

They met with the store owner and reviewed security video. After further investigation and review of the security footage, officers determined Frager Keith Hawkins, 59, of Roanoke Rapids, took candy bars from the store without paying.

On Thursday, Hawkins returned to the store around 12:30 p.m. and was arrested by Davis and Cross for misdemeanor larceny.

Hawkins signed a written promise to appear in district court on November 10.
