The four-year cohort graduation rate for Halifax County Schools has risen to 87.5 percent for the 2024-2025 school year.
This marks the highest graduation rate in recent district history and a significant increase from last year’s 77.9 percent, the school system said.
“This is more than a number — it’s a reflection of lives changed and futures opened,” said Superintendent Eric Cunningham. “Our students are proving that with the right support and opportunities, they can rise to meet and exceed expectations. This historic graduation rate is a proud moment for our schools, our families, and our entire community.”
Cunningham said the nearly 10 percentage point jump demonstrates the district’s strategic focus on student achievement and persistence. Initiatives such as personalized learning supports, expanded career and college pathways, targeted interventions, and strong community partnerships have all contributed to ensuring students stay on track to graduate. “This historic success is part of Halifax County Schools’ broader commitment to equity and excellence, ensuring every student has the opportunity to graduate prepared for college, career, and life.”
‘Strong academic progress’
The school system also recently announced strong academic progress and growth across the district for the 2024-2025 school year, reflecting the district’s commitment to student achievement and excellence.
This year, district-wide student proficiency rose from 28.3 percent to 31.3 percent, demonstrating steady improvement in student learning.
Notably, 10 of the district’s 11 schools met or exceeded expected growth, highlighting the effectiveness of district-wide strategies focused on instruction, student support, and teacher development.
“These results reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the commitment of our families and community partners,” said Cunningham. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made, and we remain focused on continuing this upward momentum to ensure every child is prepared for success.”
Cunningham said the school system will continue to prioritize instructional excellence, student support systems, and community collaboration as the district moves forward. “With a clear focus on growth and proficiency, the district is committed to sustaining and accelerating student achievement in the years to come.”
