A man who the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said stole a vehicle Tuesday morning also faces charges from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after crashing in Warren County.
Taevon Evans, 24, who the sheriff’s office said lives in Warrenton, but listed a Roanoke Rapids address in NCSHP records, was the subject of a domestic dispute call at a retail store off Highway 561 at Evans Road, Major Anzell Harris of the sheriff’s office said.
Evans became irate when Deputy D. Wilson and Corporal M. Sledge responded to the scene around 9 a.m.
He fled the scene in the female victim’s vehicle. Deputy D. Wilson attempted to initiate a traffic stop and Evans failed to stop, Harris said.
A car chase ensued and Evans crashed on Richardson Road in Warren County.
The sheriff’s office charged Evans with felony flee to elude arrest, resisting a public officer and larceny of a motor vehicle.
According to eCourts records, the NCSHP charged him with failure to heed light and siren, reckless driving with wanton disregard, no operators license, failure to maintain lane control, and exceeding the posted speed limit.
He has a December 9 Warren County District Court date for the NCSHP charges and a July 24 district court date for the HCSO charges.
