The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Lieutenant L. Melton:
Alcohol larceny
On Thursday around 4 p.m. Melton responded to a call about the larceny of alcohol at a store located at 210 East Second Street.
Melton located Darrell Markee Greene and learned the Weldon man had been involved in the earlier larceny of alcohol at a store on West Third Street, which Chief Christopher Davis had responded to but learned Greene had left.
Greene was charged with two counts of misdemeanor larceny and has a July 7 district court date.
Chase
On Wednesday around 9:30 p.m. Melton observed a vehicle traveling west on Highway 158 and Third Street near WC Rivers Road at a high rate of speed.
Melton pursued the vehicle driven by Lasandra S. Williams and the chase entered Roanoke Rapids at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. The Garysburg woman almost struck two vehicles on the roadway before she pulled into a gas station at Highway 158 near Old Farm Road.
Melton said he determined Williams was driving under the influence and she was placed under arrest.
While attempting to place her in a patrol car she reportedly struck an assisting officer, Melton said. The officer was not injured.
Williams was charged with DWI, assault on a government official, driving while license revoked for impaired driving, and exceeding the posted speed limit.
She has a July 11 district court date.
Weldon officer M. Griffin assisted along with Lieutenant D. Newsome and Corporal C. Walker, both of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
