A Halifax man and a Conway woman are wanted for the theft of some 28,000 feet of copper wire which caused an estimated $103,000 in damages.

Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said three power companies were victims in the case linked to Mark Anthony Peterson Jr., 35, and Ashlie Ann Baggett, 34.

Investigation began in March when the sheriff’s started receiving complaints of copper wire being cut off power poles around the county.

Detectives B. Edmondson, T. Byers and A. Holland received a tip from Sergeant W. Killian of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office of possible suspects. During the investigation Peterson and Baggett were developed as suspects, Harris said.

The two sold large amounts of copper wire to recycling centers in Halifax and Norfolk. Investigators recovered some of the copper wire and it matched what was cut off the power poles in Halifax County.

Warrants have been obtained and detectives are seeking Peterson and Baggett for the following charges: Four counts each of felony larceny, four counts each of felony possession of stolen property, 33 counts each of obtaining property by false pretense.
