One person was taken for treatment of smoke inhalation this afternoon following what is believed to be an electrical fire in the 400 block of Lee Road, according to the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department.

Battalion Chief B.J. Harris said the fire, which was reported around 3:30, started around a drop cord. The fire was extinguished between three to five minutes after firefighters arrived.

The house sustained smoke damage and some debris and furniture was burned.

Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, Halifax County EMS, and the Roanoke Rapids Police Department assisted.
