Roanoke Rapids police believe at least two people are responsible for a shooting death that occurred in the 100 block of Monroe Street Saturday afternoon.

Lieutenant Morgan Worrell said in a statement released late Saturday night that officers responded to a shooting call around 5:30 p.m. and found a man deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers later discovered that multiple people fled on foot from the scene just after the shooting occurred.

The name of the victim is not being immediately released and the investigation is ongoing. “We believe there are at least two individuals responsible for this incident and are actively working on leads and information about the incident to bring closure to the victim's family,” Worrell said.
