A Halifax woman faces cocaine and other drug counts following a stop during a Monday afternoon saturation patrol by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team.
Tierra Burnell, 38, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a motor vehicle violation at Highway 158 and Dickens Avenue.
Major Anzell Harris said CAT Sergeant G. Martin spoke with the occupants of the vehicle and detected the strong odor of marijuana while also observing evidence of drug paraphernalia. A search was conducted and marijuana and paraphernalia was seized.
Patrol Lieutenant R. Elder was requested to meet at the traffic stop to search Burnell. When Elder arrived deputies located a clear plastic bag containing suspected cocaine on the rear seat.
Burnell was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, failure to wear seatbelt and a window tint violation.
Burnell, who has several pending district court dates for numerous traffic infractions, was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has an April 22 district court date.
