The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:
Wednesday Community Action Team Sergeant D. Harrison was stationary in the area of Highway 158 and Zoo Road when he observed a motor vehicle violation on a truck that passed by.
Harrison initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the vehicle was being operated by 39-year-old David King of Roanoke Rapids. The vehicle had a fictitious registration plate and no insurance. King’s license was also suspended.
The passenger was 40-year-old Christina Edwards. Harrison requested assistance from Corporal N. Estes and his dog Rocko.

King gave Harrison marijuana and a smoking pipe. Rocko conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics. Edwards removed fentanyl and a straw from her bra and handed both items to Harrison.
Harrison cited King with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for no insurance, window tint violation, driving with suspended license, possessing and accepting an open title, displaying a fictitious registration plate, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He received a March 24 district court date.
Edwards was arrested and charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
She received a $10,000 bond with a March 27 district court date.
Welfare check
Corporal A. Wood responded to an apartment on Bunting Drive in the Scotland Neck area for a welfare check on a female Tuesday shortly after midnight.
During the welfare check the woman stated Raheem J. Belfield, 33, of Gaston, had a gun and assaulted her.
Belfield went back into the residence and refused to come out for a few minutes. Once he cooperated Wood learned that an altercation occurred and the female was assaulted and a gun was pointed at her. He also took a phone from her while she was trying to call for help.

Wood arrested and charged Belfield with assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun, communicating threats and larceny from the person.
He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a March 12 district court date.
Deputy J. Velez and Lieutenant D. Newsome of the sheriff’s office and officers K. Phelps and R. White with the Scotland Neck Police Department assisted.
Felon with firearm
On Monday around 12:30 p.m. Detective Sergeant A. Holland and Detective Sergeant G. Keel were in the area of Highway 125 near Interstate 95 when Holland observed a motor vehicle violation which led to a vehicle stop.

Approaching the vehicle, Holland noticed the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle which led to a search. A handgun was located in the glove compartment. It was learned that the driver, Ronnell Murrell, 30, of Emporia has been a convicted felon since 2013.
Holland arrested and charged Murrell with possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a concealed gun.
Murrell received a $26,500 bond and a March 27 district court date.
