A juvenile is in custody and at least two more people are being sought after an occupied residence in the 300 block of Franklin Street was shot into Thursday.
There were no physical injuries.
Lieutenant Morgan Worrell of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said there was exterior damage to the residence and bullets struck several interior walls.
At least two more people are being sought but it is currently unclear whether they are juveniles or adults. Motive is undetermined but Worrell said in a statement that it is not believed the residence struck was the intended target.
During the initial investigation officers determined that suspects fled from the 300 block of Henry Street to an apartment on West Fourth Street.
Officers located the residence that the suspects fled to and after searching it, found a juvenile and one of the firearms that had been used.
The juvenile was taken into custody and will be charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling.
“This is still an active investigation to determine the identity of the other individuals involved,” Worrell said. “We are striving to hold all parties accountable for these inherently dangerous actions. This is the time for the community to come together with law enforcement and help us to combat this gun violence.”
