A 37-year-old Littleton area woman has been charged with allegedly shooting her child, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported this afternoon.
More charges are pending in a Saturday crash that killed a 19-year-old Halifax man, the Weldon Police Department said this morning.
The man allegedly stealing manhole covers and storm grates has been caught, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton confirmed.
No details were immediately available.
Ten storm grates have been stolen from city streets, 28 from the River’s Edge subdivision — 24 grates and four manhole covers — and 12 taken from Carolina Crossroads.
A Hollister man thought to allegedly be responsible for the storm grate and manhole cover thefts in the city was arrested today as an officer observed him trying to take another one this morning, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton said.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following:
•Yesterday around 10:30 p.m., Deputy J. Puhak was working patrol in the Weldon community when he observed a traffic violation. Puhak stopped the vehicle and searched it. He found 1.1 grams of cocaine and counterfeit United States currency. Puhak arrested and charged Phillip Fearron, 22, of Myron Avenue, Roosevelt, N.Y., for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed on a $2,000 dollar secure bond and will appear in court on Sept. 15.
•On Tuesday, deputies responded to a residence on Will Richardson Road in the Enfield area after receiving a breaking and entering and an assault in progress call. The investigation revealed Kelvis Pitts allegedly went to his ex-girlfriend’s residence and assaulted her. Pitts then went outside and the victim refused to let him back inside the residence. Pitts broke the window front door window and reached inside and unlocked it. He allegedly entered the residence and assaulted the victim again. Deputies Michael Almendarez, Diyrone Solomon and Curtis Hawkins arrived on the scene and took Pitts into custody. Solomon charged Pitts with breaking and entering, damage to real property, assault on a female and communicating threats. Pitts, 28, from the Enfield area, was placed under no bond and has a court date of Sept. 16.
