The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire in the Bacon Road area of Littleton.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin said the fire occurred early Monday morning. The SBI arson team was called to investigate.
He said the fire destroyed the mobile home. It is considered suspicious because witnesses saw a person hurriedly moving in and out of the property.
No one was home when the fire occurred.
An arrest has been made in a shooting at 918 Henry Street Saturday night.
Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Christopher Lee Greene, 41, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Greene, who Bondarek said has a violent criminal past, was jailed on $100,000 bond and has an April 28 court date.
Police arrested Greene around 5:30 p.m. Monday in the shooting of Raymond Garner III, 34, of Roanoke Rapids.
A motive remains unknown and police continue to investigate.
Garner was shot in the chest once and is in critical but stable condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Roanoke Rapids police detectives worked throughout the day trying to identify a person who shot a man in the chest Saturday night.
“We are following up on many leads,” Chief Jeff Hinton said today.
The shooting occurred Saturday around 10 p.m. in the 900 block of Henry Street.
Deputy Chief Adam Bondarek said a man in his 20s was shot in the chest and is in critical condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Police declined to release further details.
Police responded to a disturbance call outside the Roanoke Rapids Theatre Sunday during the Bunnies in Stilettos party.
Chief Jeff Hinton said when officers arrived at the theater around 3 a.m. there was a large crowd outside.
It was reported a person was injured. The person declined medical treatment.
Hinton didn’t know what the argument was that prompted the fight. No one was arrested.
