Halifax Community College’s (HCC) Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) and Student Support Services (SSS) departments TRiO Day and College Expo has been rescheduled for March 19 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. Centre.

TRIO Day is an opportunity to focus attention on the need for increased investment in first-generation college students.

Enacted by a Congressional Resolution in 1986, National TRIO Day is a call to citizens from all walks of life to come together to promote educational access and success in communities where TRIO Programs continue to create change. By providing students, professionals, alumni and affiliates the chance to contribute through community service, TRIO Day celebrates the lives that have been transformed by college access and success.

“TRIO Day is important because it's a call to citizens from all walks of life to come together to promote educational access and success in communities where TRIO Programs continue to create change.” said Laura Clark, coordinator of HCC’s Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). “By providing students, professionals, alumni and affiliates the chance to contribute through community service, TRIO Day celebrates the lives that have been transformed by college access and success.”

“Individuals will want to attend TRIO Day to be exposed to some of the resources that they may need to assist in meeting their respective educational goals,” Clark said. “Moreover, these resources are vital because Federal TRIO Programs help first-generation students with the support needed to enter college and earn a college degree.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Laura Clark at 252-536-7223 or Roslyn Pemberton-Green at 252-536-7270.
