Girl Scouts — North Carolina Coastal Pines has elected HCC President Patrena Benton Elliott to its board of directors for the 2026-2028 term.
The organization said Elliott brings decades of experience in leadership, innovation, and community impact to the organization and has built a distinguished 30-year career in higher education. “In this role, she has led transformational change, resulting in increased funding, an institutional rebrand, and the expansion of workforce development programs that support students and the broader community.”
Prior to her presidency, Elliott held several senior leadership roles, including vice president of academic and student affairs, graduate college dean, and CEO of a statewide inter-institutional center within the University of North Carolina System. “Throughout her career, she has launched academic programs, secured millions in funding, and mentored countless students, demonstrating a deep commitment to education and opportunity.”

Elliott holds a bachelor of arts in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master of science in adult education, and a Ph.D. in leadership studies from North Carolina A&T State University.
She has also completed executive leadership programs through Harvard University and the UNC System.
