Halifax Community College recognizes two student interns from the Learning Resource Center — Cameron Byrd and Matthew Daughtry — for their recent selection to leadership positions within the Northeast 4-H District.
Byrd, a junior at Roanoke Valley Early College, has been selected to serve as secretary/treasurer for the Northeast 4-H District. Daughtry, a sophomore at Northampton County Early College, has been selected as Member Engagement Officer. Both students will be formally inducted into their respective roles in July.
4-H is a nationally recognized youth development organization committed to preparing young people for success through hands-on learning and leadership experiences.
“Delivered through Cooperative Extension — a network of more than 100 public universities — 4-H has empowered youth for over a century by promoting practical skills, community involvement, and personal growth,” the college said. “Today, nearly six million young people across the country participate in 4-H programs designed to build resilience, adaptability, and readiness for both college and career.”
The mission of 4-H is to help youth develop confidence, leadership abilities, and essential life skills. Open to individuals ages 5 to 19, the program offers opportunities in areas such as health, science, agriculture, and civic engagement. “Participants benefit from a supportive environment where adult mentors guide them as they explore interests, build knowledge, and take on meaningful leadership roles.”
“Cameron and Matthew’s selection to district leadership positions reflects their dedication, work ethic, and commitment to personal and professional growth,” the college said. “Their achievements not only highlight their individual accomplishments but also bring pride to Halifax Community College and the communities they represent.”
