Derrick L. Flood, director of learning resources at Halifax Community College, received an award for excellence in academic librarianship during the North Carolina Library Association Conference last month.
Recognized for his forward-thinking approach, the college said Flood has redefined the role of the Learning Resource Center at Halifax Community College. “His strategic leadership, creativity, and commitment to student success have fostered a culture of collaboration and innovation that enhances how students, faculty, staff, and the community engage with learning resources.”
At the heart of Flood’s work is a commitment to providing students with meaningful access to learning,” the college said. “By maintaining current, evidence-based resources and fostering an environment that encourages exploration and growth, he continues to showcase how academic libraries can transform campus life and strengthen the educational mission of Halifax Community College.”
Flood holds two graduate degrees from Clark Atlanta University: a specialist in library services with a concentration in school library media and a master’s in library science with a concentration in academic library management.
He also holds a bachelor’s in business technology from Appalachian State University and an associate in business administration from Roanoke-Chowan Community College.
Presently Flood is a doctoral candidate at Capella University, specializing in adult education.
He enjoys music, travel, reading mysteries, adventure, and attending community events.
The North Carolina Library Association, as a chapter of both the American Library Association and the Southeastern Library Association, is the sole organization that serves the entire library community in North Carolina.
