Halifax Community College has been named one of the 250 top vocational schools nationwide in USA Today’s 2025 list, earning a four-star rating. 

It is one of only 14 community colleges in North Carolina included on the list. 

According to the article, the rankings, developed by Statista in collaboration with USA Today, were judged on five primary metrics: graduation rate, graduates' salary, years it takes to pay off net cost, social mobility and diversity. 

In USA Today’s rating system, four stars indicate strong performance across all categories.

This recognition underscores Halifax Community College’s dedication to offering accessible, hands-on training that prepares graduates for in-demand careers, strengthens the regional workforce, and supports the economic vitality of the Roanoke Valley and surrounding communities, the college said.

“We are honored to join this distinguished list of institutions recognized by USA Today,” said Dr. Patrena Benton Elliott, president of Halifax Community College. “Earning a four-star rating reflects our mission to deliver exceptional education that opens doors to rewarding careers and enhances the prosperity of our region.”

Halifax Community College offers a wide range of short-term training courses through its Workforce Development department, allowing students to earn credentials and begin their careers quickly. 

The college also provides multiple degree and certificate programs that can lead to additional industry- recognized professional certifications, further enhancing students’ qualifications and career opportunities. These pathways combine technical skills with real-world experience, ensuring that graduates are well- prepared for the demands of today’s job market.

The other 13 NC Community Colleges listed are, Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro, Gaston College in Dallas, Nash Community College in Rocky Mount, Stanly Community College in Albemarle, McDowell Technical Community College in Marion, Montgomery Community College in Troy, Pamlico Community College in Grantsboro, Richmond Community College in Hamlet, Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, and Southwestern Community College in Sylva.
