Halifax Academy's senior Kelly Williams breaks 1993 school record Tuesday night and is the new all-time leading scorer at Halifax Academy.

Williams who averaged 28 points per game last season was 33 points away from breaking the Halifax Academy's basketball all-time leading scoring record. record The former record holder was Melissa Carico with a 2,073 total points scored set in 1993. Williams had earned a total of 1,968 points heading into the 2015-16 season and 2,041 points heading into Tuesday's game at home against Wilson Christian Academy.

On a side note, William's mother Shannon was a teammate of Carico in 90 and 91 teams and they won the State Championship in 1991.

It was two minutes and five seconds remaining in the 3rd period when Williams drove to the inside for the basket and passed Carico's former record. Coach Ruffin called for a time-out and Williams was recognized for breaking the school record and becoming the Halifax Academy's all-time leading scorer. With the team up by a large number of points, Williams sat out the remainder of the game with a game high 33 points. 

Head coach Rick Ruffin stated, "So glad she could break it at home. Williams is such an unselfish player too. The Coach from Wilson was so gracious for her too A wonderful night for out school, team, and Kelly's family. Glad to be a part of it."

Williams stated, "I couldn't have done it without the help of my teammates throughout the years. It is pretty cool to know that I have accomplished something that hasn't been done in 20 years. Now we just have to make it to a state championship to outdo my mom's team.
