Newsome fields were filled with joy and softball Saturday in Roanoke Rapids.

Organized Thomas Barrett has scheduled the Toys for Tot softball tournament to be played in Gaston, but the weather had different plans. The rain made for poor field conditions in Gaston and the Roanoke Rapids Parks & Recreation stepped up and teams were able to rent the Newsome fields at Chockeyotte Park in Roanoke Rapids. Barrett stated he wanted to thank John Simeon and the recreation department for stepping up.

Six teams paid the entry fee with new unwrapped toys and  Barrett says a few children will be able to have a good Christmas now thanks to the tournament.

Swinging Gas won the Championship 17-16 in 7 innings Saturday night.
