2014 Betty Ballard Summer League Champions.
Just one day after hearing the news of their coach, Diego Hasty passing
away, it was a very emotional day for the KIPP Pride High Summer League
girls basketball team. The 4th annual Betty Ballard Summer League
championship game had been scheduled for a week. Everyone knew Coach
would say the game gotta be played, so play it. Coaches Brett Noble and
Thomas Buffaloe stepped up and coached the girls.
KIPP girls who were very emotional in pregame and post-game did what
Coach Hasty had coached them to do, WIN. KIPP beat Northwest High 59-53.
Before presenting the trophies, Weldon High girls coach Grady Williams
took a moment to discuss how proud Diego would have been of the girls,
which was very emotional for the KIPP players, he dedicated the win to
Diego and also asked for a moment of silence.
The girls pictured above are:
Regina Ward, Keshonna Gay, Kayela Buffaloe, Sholonda Taylor, Caresa Clemonts, Niambi Wilkins, Jacaja Buffaloe, Destiny Nesmith, Tamara High and Melody Cherry.
