Myrick School of Dance has great success at the Southeast Showdown Singular Sensation held in Clayton NC
Myrick School of Dance recently competed at the Singular Sensation Dance Competition, a competition for only Solo’s, Duet’s, and Trios. There were 14 Dance schools from all over represented and over 200 dance numbers competed for Silver, Gold, High Gold, Platinum, and Elite Platinum awards. “It’s a great opportunity to put our Solo, Duet, and Trio dancers out there without them being stressed about their team numbers as well” states Heather Merritt, Owner and Instructor at Myrick School of Dance.
Myrick School of Dance took 1 entries, “hey Lil Mamma” a Hip Hop duet by Alexis Carter and Nyasia Dawson, “Blurred Lines” a Clogging Solo by MacKenzie Moody, “Great Balls of Fire” a clogging solo by Cassidy Goff, “Work” an Open solo by Toni Darden, “Smash” a Musical Theater duet by Toni Darden and Alexis Carter, “Every Heart” a Lyrical Solo by Alexis Carter, “Barefoot and Buck Wild” a clogging solo by Kailla Warren, “Secrets” a character routine by Ashleigh Fleming and Alexis Carter, “Shawty Get Loose” a hip hop trio by Megan Barrow, Cassidy Goff, and Mallory Barrow and an Acro Duet to “Last Dance” by Toni Darden and Jessica Neville. “I am extremely proud of every routine that MSOD put out there today” States Heather, These girls represented Myrick School of Dance very well.
Toni Darden (12) and Jessica Neville (17) competed their Acro Dance to Last Dance and were the top winners of the day from Myrick School of Dance winning an Elite Platinum award and placing 1st overall in their Teen Duet/Trio Category. The routine consists of many acrobatic tricks including BHS, Tucks, Aerials, and many partner tricks. Alexis Carter (13) and partner Nyasia Dawson (7) competed a very entertaining Hip Hop Duet to “Hey Lil Momma” and were rewarded with a Platinum award and placed 3rd overall out of all of the petite Duet/Trio category. This was Nyasia’s first time competing a duet and she did amazingly well. The Hip Hop trio consisting of Cassidy Goff (12), Megan (13) and Mallory Barrow (17) scored overall in their division in 3rd place. “Hip hop is usually very hard to place in so I was very pleased with the outcome, the girls did amazing” States Karen, instructor at Myrick School of Dance.
Toni Darden (12) Scored Platinum on her Open dance routine to a remix of Working 9 to 5 and the song Work and placed 3rd overall in her division. “Toni has been doing Solo’s for 3 years and this was by far her best presentation” states Heather Merritt, “the self-control and entertainment she presented was well worth a score of Platinum”. Alexis Carter (13) competed for the first time in the Teen category and placed 2nd overall in her division. Her lyrical solo to “Every Heart” consists of multiple turns and leap combinations. ‘Her solo was simply beautiful states Heather, there was great technique and a lot of emotion”, I am very proud of her and all of our Solo’s”.
Myrick School of Dance will travel to Richmond VA next weekend and compete all of their Solo, Duet, and Trio’s as well as all of the team dances from the PeeWee Team (5 and Under) Mini Team (10 and Under) and both the JR and SR Teams. Good Luck to all of the Myrick School of Dance Teams!
