City Council Work Session

Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall.

City Council meetings can be viewed through Zoom (See City website for link) and on Spectrum Channel 193.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:   

The City of Roanoke Rapids is now accepting applications for the following positions:

Investigator (Roanoke Rapids Police Dept)

Applicant must have four (4) years of law enforcement experience.

Applicant must possess the technical skills and desire to conduct criminal investigations and have a thorough understanding of interview/interrogation techniques and criminal statutes.

Applicant must have received basic criminal investigations training or other criminal investigations classes.  

Applicant must be required to complete Basic Criminal Investigation Class within one year of probationary status (if not already attended previously)

Applicant must participate in an oral interview, presentation and other documents may be required.

Applicant must submit a City of Roanoke Rapids Police Application packet, a resume listing experience, certifications and qualifications.

Completed Police application packet must be submitted to Kathy Kearney – Human Resources Manager no later than Friday – April 30, 2021

Lifeguards

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Must be able to complete ½ mile swim in under 20 minutes.

Essential Duties and Tasks

Teaches Red Cross swimming lessons

Provides routine pool maintenance to ensure cleanliness and safe environment for patrons

Works as a team to provide supervision of a large number (sometimes as many as 300 pool patrons – team is comprised of approximately seven lifeguards)

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor

Firefighter (Applicant Pool) (application date extended)

Applications being accepted to establish an eligibility list (Applicant Pool) from which periodic selections will be made as positions become available.

Desired Qualifications:

Must have High School Diploma or GED

Preferred NC Firefighter II (but not required)

Must be able to obtain a North Carolina or Virginia Class B Driver’s License within 90 days of employment.

Must have WorkKeys Silver Certificate (or higher) (Contact Tonia Lashley at Halifax Community College for more information (252) 536-6393)

Must be of good character and be in good physical condition.

Background check and drug test required.

Equipment Mechanic

An employee in this position serves as a skilled mechanic in the garage.  

This employee performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment which will include, but not limited to, mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines, and performing preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.

Essential Duties & Tasks

Performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment.

Mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel motors and engines.

Performs preventative maintenance, particularly on heavy equipment.

Work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work in both inside and outside environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate supplemented by course work in repair and maintenance of heavy equipment and engines.

Must have considerable experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair.

Background check and drug screen required.
