The City of Roanoke Rapids is now accepting applications for the following positions:

Cemetery Groundskeeper (Part Time)

An employee in this class is responsible for assisting in the groundskeeping operations of the Cedarwood Cemetery.  

This position will assist with the care for and maintain public landscaping and ground around and within the cemetery.  

This is accomplished by gathering and organizing all materials needed for each project; ensuring all litter is picked up; fertilizing, cutting, pruning, and trimming all greenery, removing snow and ice; operating various related equipment such as a weed-eater lawn mower, etc. and maintaining cemeteries and grave sites.  Other duties include ensuring customer satisfaction; and assisting in storm-damage clean up.

Lifeguard (Part Time)

An employee in this position assists in all aspects of operations of the recreation center swimming pool and aquatic center.  The employee has the responsibility for making sure that the facility is maintained in good condition, to ensure that participants in swimming activities and classes are in a safe and clean environment.  

Minimum Qualifications:  Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/ CPR/AED certification – Must be able to complete ½ mile swim in under 20 minutes.

Police Officer  

This position is responsible for the enforcement of state and local laws.

Qualifications include: 

Be a high school graduate or have passed the General Educational Development Test indicating high school equivalency.  

Possession of valid driver's license with an active and consecutive 3-year satisfactory verifiable driving history. Driving history will be checked. (Must be able to be licensed in the State of North Carolina).

Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.


Must possess a valid or current Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.) certificate. 

Candidates must provide documentation of B.L.E.T. Certificate. Certified Officers preferred but will accept applications for BLET Candidates. 

(CERTIFIED Starting salary $35,000.00)

MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED/TRASH COLLECTION:  Municipal Offices will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2021 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Monday’s trash route will be collected on Wednesday, January 20th.
