PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 5:15 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall located at 700 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC to hear the following item:

Rezoning Request (map attached) – Leonard Love is requesting an amendment to the Roanoke Rapids Zoning Map to rezone properties addressed as 205, 207 and 209 Mullen Drive, Halifax Co. Parcels 0904738 (0.243+ acre), 0906312 (0.232+ acre) and 0902191 (0.218+ acre) from R-6, Residential District to B-4, Commercial District. Located on the 205 Mullen Dr. parcel is a single-family house, along with two (2) accessory buildings in which the applicant operates a vehicle repair business.

Any resident or property owner in the city’s zoning jurisdiction may submit written statements concerning this matter.  Please include your name and address on all written statements and submit to City Clerk Traci Storey at least two business days prior to the City Council meeting (deadline of 12 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019).  After this deadline, citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to present comments.

Related information is available for public inspection in the Planning and Development office at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:   

The City of Roanoke Rapids is accepting applications for the following positions:

Library Operations Supervisor (Roanoke Rapids Public Library)

A candidate in this class supervises the part-time Library Assistants; trains and answers questions; discusses performance issues; and assists in the interviewing process. Delegates tasks and schedules duties for employees; Coordinates computer input and operations for the library; Compiles and prepares statistical reports of library use; Maintains administrative files and records for the library; Keeps inventory current; Coordinate at least four major programs annually including the Summer Reading Program in June & July, the Holiday Reading Event in December and two others to be assigned by the Head Librarian;  

Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science from an accredited ALA library school and some supervisory experience and experience in library work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Recreation Program Supervisor (Aquatic Center - Parks & Recreation)

A candidate in this class plans, coordinates and supervises the Aquatic Center programs and activities.  

A successful candidate will have demonstrated management experience in the aquatics field, strong supervisory skills and ability to motivate a team, and a strong sense of safety with the ability to implement good practices   

Desired Qualifications:  - High school diploma or equivalent. – Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in recreation administration, physical education or related degree and considerable experience in the recreational programming preferred- Certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED preferred, First Aid & Lifeguarding preferred -3yrs. of lifeguarding experience preferred -Management experience – Must have excellent people service skills - Ability to provide service with integrity -Good verbal and written communication skills.  Must hold a valid Class C North Carolina Driver’s License. Police Officer (Roanoke Rapids Police Department)

An employee in this class performs a full range of general law enforcement duties to protect life and property in the City. Basic Law Enforcement Training is preferred but not required. (Open Until Filled)

MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED/TRASH COLLECTION: Municipal offices will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 in observance of Labor Day. Trash collection routes for Monday will be collected on Wednesday, September 4th.
