SWELECT delays plans for manufacturing plant

SWELECT Energy Systems, which announced in June it was going build solar modules in the Halifax County Corporate Park, has decided to delay construction of a facility projected to employ 155 people.

Bryant attains Mentor level in leaders academy

Halifax County Commission Chairman Vernon Bryant was recognized by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for meeting the requirements for the Mentor level in the Local Elected Leaders Academy.

County budget comes under fire during hearing

The county's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year drew criticism from the Roanoke Valley Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Coalition for Education and Economic Security during a public hearing on the matter Monday.

Halifax County commissioners today approved two economic development projects which between them could bring 171 jobs to the area.

As Halifax County's three school systems continue to grapple with the question of equitable funding, commissioners today approved a petition from the Halifax County Board of Education which will put a referendum on the November 8 general election ballot requesting voter approval of a supplemental school tax.
