Students at Cornerstone Christian and Halifax Academy have earned honors in Sons of the American Revolution contests.

Cornerstone Christian School fifth-grade student Ella King has won the SAR Americanism poster chapter level contest sponsored by the Halifax Resolves Chapter.

Students were given a choice of two subjects — the Battles of Lexington and Concord or George Rogers Clark.

Ella’s winning poster covered the Battles of Lexington and Concord.

NCSSAR President Ken Wilson awarded Ella a chapter level winners certificate and a check for $100.

Her poster will be entered in the state contest to be conducted at the Alamance Battleground Patriot’s Day Commemoration ceremony on May 16.

Ella’s teacher, Renee Walker, received an SAR Certificate of Appreciation and a check for $50 recognizing her support of the program and having produced the winning poster from her class.

Halifax Academy eighth-grade student Colton Copeland won the chapter level Americanism Brochure contest sponsored by the chapter.

The subject of the brochure was required to be one of the founding documents such as the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.

Colton selected the Bill of Rights and produced a brochure supporting this historic document.

Wilson awarded Colton a chapter level winner’s certificate and a check for $100.

The entry will also be sent to the state level competition at the Alamance Battleground.

Eighth-grade history teacher Tracey Lynch received an SAR Certificate of Appreciation and a check for $50 for her assistance in the contest and having the winning entry being produced in her class.
