Lieutenant Jerry Powell said the man, Jermaine Moody, 40, has a warrant for his arrest in the case but has not been seen since early November.
Moody has a past history of assault on a child stemming from a case in Northampton County.
Moody is believed to be in Centerville in Franklin County or in the Scotland Neck area where he has relatives.
