Two people have been charged in a September 27 shooting at the Weldon Waffle House, one where one of the alleged accomplices was badly injured when he got caught in the crossfire.

Weldon police Chief Mark Macon said Cortez Devonte Sesson, 22, of Happy Drive, Roanoke Rapids, surrendered this morning. He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and injury to personal property, which Macon said was a freezer door inside the restaurant.

Meanwhile, Macon said Sesson's girlfriend, Latressa Taylor, 30, also of Happy Drive, was arrested by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office last week and made bond after being charged with simple assault and accessory after the fact.

She is alleged to have shot the intended victim with a stun gun after he was shot, purportedly by Sesson.

The man injured in the crossfire has been released from medical care, Macon said, and investigation into his alleged involvement continues.

Macon said neither Sesson or Taylor gave a statement. “The preliminary investigation still confirms this was the result of some disagreement away from the Waffle House.”
