The Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 Business Expo will add something extra this year with a cooking competition.

The Healthy Bite Cooking Challenge gives local restaurants and caterers the chance to offer a sample of a healthy option they provide on their menus.

Currently competing in the challenge are: david’s Restaurant & Catering offering a wheat pasta with Mediterranean chicken sauté; Logan’s Roadhouse offering their grilled chicken and broccoli; 51 Sycamore offering grilled seasoned rockfish nuggets and Popeyes offering jambalaya and blackened chicken with green beans.

There will be free taste samples of all dishes from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the conclusion of the Business Expo, which be held May 29 at The Centre at Halifax Community College.

The bites are offered to all attending wanting to taste and vote. Tasters will choose their favorite bite with the most popular being announced on WPTM 102.3 the following morning. Other highlights include all-day prize giveaways and a free lunch from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. sponsored by Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.

The Expo is open to the public with free admission and no charge for additional highlights.

Area businesses will be assembled to give the public a chance to visit and learn about numerous area businesses and what they offer.

The Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature area business in one location, giving the community the opportunity to talk one on one with business representatives and take advantage of special incentives and giveaways.
