A Monday night shooting on the Eleventh Street area of South Weldon known as The Strip caused no apparent injuries, but has resulted in a warrant for attempted first-degree murder being filed against Omar Daquan Ponton.

Detective Chris Scott of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Ponton, 21, typically frequents the Weldon area where he lives and has a history of violence. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Scott said it is unclear what triggered the shooting and it is unknown whether there was a shootout. “No one got hurt as far we know,” he said, explaining there were no hospital reports of treatment of gunshot wounds and no one came forward to say they were injured.

The detective said, however, there were uninjured victims in the case, and allegedly enough evidence to pin the attempted murder charge on Ponton.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
