A Saturday night gunshot victim is in fair condition, while the man who reportedly shot him in the lower leg is on the lam, reports the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Norwood is wanted.

Major Scott Hall said in a statement that deputies responded to Cypress Court off Highway 301 in the Dogwood Parks apartments outside Weldon and found the 24-year-old victim, Cedric Lamont Richardson, had been shot with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Lieutenant Tim Harris identified the alleged suspect in the case as Alvin Norwood Jr., 22, of Weldon.

Richardson was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for initial treatment and then to another facility for further care.

Norwood was last seen leaving the subsidized housing complex in a small, black vehicle of unknown make or model.

Hall was in a meeting this morning and not immediately available for further comment.

Anyone with information on the matter is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
