Halifax County Sheriff's Office Deputies B. Biggerstaff and P. Moyer, along with Corporal M. Brown and agents D.C. Dickens and S.G. Page conducted several traffic stops for motor vehicle violations.
About 30 minutes into the patrol, Lieutenant Anzell Harris stopped a vehicle in the area of South McDaniel and Pope streets for a seat belt violation.
He identified the driver as Terrace Ronneail Lloyd.
Harris said in a statement he could smell marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. During a search Harris seized a 9mm handgun from under the driver's seat. Central communications confirmed Lloyd was a convicted felon. Harris arrested and charged the 22-year-old with carrying a concealed gun and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was jailed on $8,000 secured bond and given a February 5 court date.
A few minutes after Harris's stop, Dickens, on foot patrol in the area of Lodge Street, detected the odor of marijuana coming from a residence.
He continued his investigation and obtained a search warrant for the property. Dickens seized marijuana and paraphernalia. He also obtained warrants, with the assistance of the Enfield Police Department, for an offender at the residence.
“The Halifax County Sheriffs Office will continue to be proactive and conduct saturated patrols throughout the county,” Harris said in the statement.
