A woman is being treated at an undisclosed hospital after she was shot in the head, allegedly by her boyfriend, following a domestic dispute outside Roanoke Rapids this evening.

The woman's 7-year-old child, who Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said was in the direct line of fire, was not injured.

The shooting occurred on Sedum Lane off Highway 903 and Everette's School Road around 6:30 p.m.

Investigators learned the woman called 911 after she was shot while driving away from the argument with her boyfriend, who was identified as Joshua Tristan Arrington, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.

Arrington allegedly shot the woman with a handgun. Her child was in the rear seat of the vehicle.

Deputies located Arrington at the scene and took him into custody.

Arrington is charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property and injury to personal property.

He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a December 4 court date.

The victim's condition was not immediately available as of this report.
