A Scotland Neck man chose the wrong path today and allegedly surrendered his crack cocaine and glass pipe to a Halifax County Sheriff's Office narcotics agent.

Lieutenant Anzell Harris said Agent D.C. Dickens spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in a path off Davis Memorial Road, which is located past Halifax Academy, shortly after 2 p.m.

Harris said the man, William Heath Lilley, reportedly a known drug user, frequents the South Weldon area.

During his conversation with Dickens, Lilley, 40, handed over the crack and pipe he had allegedly had in his possession.

A subsequent search of the vehicle, with assistance from Agent S.G. Page, yielded no other drugs or paraphernalia and Lilley was charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $3,000 bond and has a December 4 court date.

Harris noted in a press release that Lilley has a prior drug conviction from 2003 and has a pending court case in Halifax County for felony possession of cocaine.
