Halifax County Sheriff's Office Major Scott Hall said in a statement Deputy Matt Brown stopped a 1995 Nissan around 3 a.m. for an equipment violation.

Brown identified the driver as 58-year-old Donny Wayne Speight. A sheriff's office dog indicated for drugs and one hit of crack was found, along with two aluminum cans fashioned into smoking pipes.

Speight was charged with felony possession of schedule II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was issued a $3,000 bond and awaits a November 20 court date.
