The Roanoke Rapids High School Yellow Jackets Cross Country team opened their season by hosting ten other teams in a non-conference meet at the Roanoke Rapids Lake Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Both, men and women's teams had strong showings to start the year.

The Men's team finished 3rd overall in team points behind Northern Nash and Rocky Mount.  The team was paced by Jacob Bouchard and Harry Crawford who both placed in the top 20 individually.

The Women's team finished 2nd overall in team points behind Northern Nash.  The team was paced by Catherine MacNichol, who finished 2nd individually, as well as Caitlin Bobbitt and Morgan Davis who placed in the top 20.

Jackets Cross Country Coach Mark Snead stated, "I always enjoy hosting this meet to start the season.  It is a strong field and is always a good gauge of where we stand as the season begins.  Our teams did really well.  They set good times to start the season and now know that the hard work they put in at practice pays off.  We will enjoy this good start and hit the trail to work on improving our times at our next week.  I am really proud of this group so far."
