An Enfield man was arrested Thursday for obtaining property by false pretense regarding a dog he wanted to adopt from Rainbow Rescue.

Roanoke Rapids Police Detective Frankie Griffin arrested Terrence Deion McCrae following an investigation of a June 3 report from the rescue shelter in Roanoke Rapids.

McCrae expressed interest in adopting a dog and filled out the necessary paperwork but said he would have to come back with the $50 adoption fee.

He was allowed to take the dog on his promise to pay the money.

He never returned to pay the money and it was learned the information he provided on the adoption paperwork was false, police said this morning.

Continued investigation led Griffin to discover the dog had been dropped off in the county. The dog was recovered and did not appear to be abused.

McCrae, who had been wanted for failing to register as a sex offender outside Halifax County, was also served warrants from Edgecombe County on undisclosed charges.

He was given a $400 secured bond.
