Roanoke Rapids police arrested Meshawn Avent, 17, of Pleasant Hill; Terry Moody, 18, of Garysburg and Akeem Parker, 18, of Roanoke Rapids.
Avent
Avent is charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery while Moody faces the same charges, along with a count of possession of a weapon with an altered serial number and discharging a weapon in the city limits.
Parker faces a charge of accessory after the fact of armed robbery and was jailed on $3,000 secured bond. Avent was given a $25,000 bond and Moody a $50,000 bond. They all have May 11 court dates.
The arrests were the result of an investigation that began after the two victims reported shortly after 2:30 Sunday morning they were walking home from the Presto at Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Hamilton Street.
Moody
The victims, brothers aged 29 and 27, had made it to 14th and Hamilton streets when they were allegedly approached by two men who would later be identified as Avent and Moody. Moody allegedly fired a gun as they approached the victims, although Captain Andy Jackson said it could not be determined if he was firing at the victims or into the air.
The men demanded money from the victims and left the scene with $21. They headed back to the Presto and got into what was believed to be an Explorer.
Investigation by officers Jason Williams, Roy Ball, Chris Biggerstaff and Lieutenant O.L. Morgan eventually led to the discovery of the Explorer at 62 Madison Street where Parker lives.
The officers arrested the men and recovered the handgun.
