The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

Child sex offense update

The second person wanted in a child sex offense case was apprehended in Buncombe County where he was working.

Steven Wayne Bedgood was apprehended Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. after tips from Crimestoppers identified he was working there.

He received a $500,000 bond and has a May 13 district court date in Halifax County.

Joseph Robert Liles surrendered on Wednesday and has a Friday district court date.

He is no longer in custody at the Halifax County Detention Center, jail records show.

The charges against the men stem from separate sex offenses with the same victim — once when the child was 4 in 2017 and then in 2023 when the child was 10.

They face charges of statutory sex offense with a child less than 10-years-old.

The count against Bedgood, 39, stems from 2017 and the charge against Liles stems from 2023.

Threats to release dog on officers

On Wednesday around 8:30 am, Sergeant C. Hagbourne, PACE Officer J. Conrad, and Officer P. Dueitt responded to the Emry Park area on a domestic between Tyler Nolan Trezza, 21, and a female.

Guyant said Trezza became irate with officers and started yelling and making threats to release his pit bull to attack the officers.

Trezza was placed under arrest. After being placed inside a patrol vehicle he began hitting his head against the cage and knocked himself unconscious.

Trezza was transported to ECU North and treated.

He was charged with resisting a public officer, disorderly conduct, and assault with a deadly weapon which was the dog.

An adult took possession of the dog.

Trezza received a $1,500 bond and a June 7 district court date.
