RRPD roundup: Chase to Va.; drug arrests

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m., Officer M. Worrell was following up on a narcotics complaint and conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of Williams Street.  

During the stop narcotics and paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.

Mikayla Elizabeth Ventura, 17, of Roanoke Rapids, and Timothy Gray Liles, 16, of Littleton, were cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were both released until their June 11 court date.

Officer R. Cross and his dog Midas assisted with the stop.

 

On Sunday at approximately 12:30 a.m., Officer C. Hagbourne was responding to a disturbance call in the 100 block of James Court when the alleged suspect was leaving on a vehicle.  

Officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The suspect failed to stop for blue light/siren and led officers on a chase into Virginia.  

Once in Virginia the suspect wrecked his vehicle and was taken into custody by the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office.

Hagbourne obtained warrants on the driver, Daequan Marquis Everette, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, for flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle, fail to heed to blue lights/siren, two counts reckless driving, speeding and injury to property.  

Everette is being held in Virginia pending extradition =to North Carolina.

The injury to property count charge was based on a warrant taken out by an individual.

It was not clear what prompted Everette to flee.

Sergeant M. Moseley, Master Officer J. Hardy, Officer A. Green, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Greensville County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

On Sunday at approximately 12:15 p.m., Officer J. Spragins went to a residence in the 100 block of Duke Street to serve a warrant.  

During the attempted warrant service at the residence Spragins noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside.  

During a search narcotics and paraphernalia were found.

Jasmine Ja’elle Bennett, 25, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bennett received a $5,000 bond and May 2 court date.

Spragins also obtained warrants on Reshad Taalib Bobbitt, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, for  possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

While processing Bennett in Halifax, Bobbitt, who is Bennett’s boyfriend, came in and was served the warrants by Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy J. Comeaux.

Bobbitt received a $5,000 bond and May 2 court date.

Worrell assisted.

 

On Sunday at approximately 8:30 p.m., Green and Officer S. Blythe responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

The alleged suspects were getting into a vehicle as officers arrived. The officers located the vehicle in the parking lot.

Montrell Da’Jour Johnson, 19, was found in possession of a concealed handgun which was reported stolen in 2016.  

Green arrested and charged Johnson with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.

He received a $3,500 bond and a May 2 court date.

The juvenile involved in the larceny was released to their parent.
