Drugs, guns seized at checking station

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Today around 10 a.m., officers were checking drivers licenses at the intersection of Hinson Street and Branch Avenue when Kendrick Lee Vincent, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, approached.

Sergeant M. Moseley noticed the smell on marijuana was reportedly coming from inside the vehicle.  

During a search officers found several types of narcotics, paraphernalia and concealed handguns.

In all, Hasty said 146 grams of marijuana, 2 grams of cocaine, a dosage unit of Xanax and three concealed handguns were seized.

Vincent was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule VI, possession of schedule VI, possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule II, possession of schedule II, possession of schedule IV, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, carrying concealed weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $30,000 bond and April 4 court date.

Master Officer J. Hardy and officers A. Green and C. Hagbourne assisted.

 

Other arrests 

Last Friday at approximately 11:45 p.m.,Officer J. DeSare conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Fifth Street near Pinecrest Avenue.  

The driver, Carlos Devon Harris, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, had a revoked license and an outstanding order for arrest.

He was also found in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.   

Harris was arrested on the outstanding order for arrest and received a $600 bond.

He cited Harris for driving while license revoked, improper equipment, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received an April 9 court date.

 

On Saturday at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers received a report of attempted vehicle break-ins in the 1000 block of East Ninth Street.  

Lieutenant J. Baggett saw a person running away from the area and gave chase, the person apprehended as other officers were arriving.

Baggett arrested and charged Jerry Wayne Vowell, 16, with two counts breaking/entering a motor vehicle; two counts attempted breaking/entering of a motor vehicle; conspiracy, and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

Vowell received a $5,000 bond and March 14 court date.

Investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.

Master Officer G. Colson and officers H. Grimes, DeSare and M. Hunsucker assisted.

 

On Saturday at approximately 2 p.m., officers received a call about an assault in the 100 block of West Tenth Street.

While officers were responding a description of the suspect was given out.  

Officer C. Batchelor spotted the suspect in the 900 block of Jackson Street.

Batchelor attempted to stop the suspect, who fled, but was taken into custody after a brief chase.

Batchelor arrested and charged Scottie Tyrell Shelton, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, with assault inflicting serious injury and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.  

Shelton received a $15,000 bond and March 21 court date.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Lieutenant C. Burnette, Sergeant M. Peck and Officer D. Hundley assisted.

On Monday at approximately 10 a.m., Green conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Roanoke Avenue near Twelfth Street.

During the stop the driver fled from the vehicle and was located by other officers in the back alley.  

Witnesses reportedly saw the driver throw an item into the dumpster. Officers found a handgun reported stolen from Rocky Mount.

Green arrested and charged Isiah Jacques Sherrod, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, with possession of a stolen firearm, no operator’s license, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Sherrod received a $2,000 bond and an April 9 court date.

Green also arrested and charged the passenger, Jasmine Teressa Barksdale, 23, of Littleton, for possession of marijuana and allowing an unlicensed person to drive.

She received a $500 bond and April 9 court date.
